DataLinker Utility Programs

You can get a hard copy of this file by using the OA-O command to turn
your slot 1 printer on and then using the OA-J command to view this file from
within the DataLinker program. Alternately, you can load this file into a
word processor such as AppleWorks, AppleWriter, Sensible Writer, MouseWrite,
etc, and print it from there.

                             Utilities On this Disk

  1) Utilitiy Documentation

The documentation file you are presently reading.

  2) Macro Making Hints

Some control characters you can use in your macros to make them look
nicer. Includes an explaination of all of the control codes used in
         the included macros.
  3) Run DataLink Loop-Back Test

Choosing this option will completely test your DataLink modem. The
modem must NOT be connected to a live phone line while running this
test. If connected to a live phone line the test will fail. You may
want to run this if you feel you are having a problem that is not
being caused by the software or phone lines. This test will find the
slot in which your DataLink is installed, report the status of DSR,
check the version of the ROM installed on your modem, and do a
checksum on the rom (verify rom to make sure it's correct).

  4) Run DataLink Remote Echo Test

This test only works AFTER two modems have made connection. The
computer running the test (only one computer can run this test at a
time) will ECHO every character that is sent to it. The purpose of
this test is to test the modem that is sending data. The computer
running the test will display every character it has received and is
echoing back. Pressing <space> will exit this test and return you to
        the A.E. DataLink Utilities Menu.
  5) Turn DataLink OFF

Choosing this option will run the included SYSTEM program called
'MODEM.OFF'. This will do a software reset of the DataLink modem.
When 'Modem.Off' is finished running, you will be returned to the
ProDOS quit code. Or, if you have a program selector installed,
you will be returned to your program selector.

  6) Exit to ProDOS

This option will return you to the ProDOS quit code. If you have a
program selector installed you will be returned to the selector.

  7) Exit to BASIC

This option will put you in AppleSoft BASIC.

                           Public Domain Utilities
                          =========================

We have also included a number of public domain programs on this
disk. Please note that Applied Engineering assumes no responsibility for
 the performance of these programs.

FREEWRITER A public domain Text Editor from Paul Lutus (the author of
AppleWriter). It does not support printing or WPL files.
It is a great program for creating macros for DataLinker.

SQ3 & USQ2 A pair of public domain programs that will allow you to
squeeze and unsqueeze files. Do this prior to uploading
files for a shorter connect time. Documentation for these
files is provided (by the author) in the text file, SQ.DOC.

ALU From the author of SQ3 & USQ2. ALU allows you to create
Apple Library Files. It also will extract individual files
                   from a Binary2 file.
